Driving Test Centre Waiting Rooms to Reopen

Don L. Gates

driving test centre waiting roomsDue to the Coronavirus pandemic, driving test centre waiting rooms have been closed to the public for some time. Test candidates and their instructors have had to wait in their cars or at the side of the building. With the onset of cold and wet weather, this has not been very popular. An announcement has been made however that some of these are now set to reopen.

Individual site assessments are being undertaken, and a phased reopening will be carried out at those centres where it is judged to be the least risk. Most waiting rooms however will remain closed.

On the 30th October, driving test centre waiting rooms will be open at:

Alness
Darlington MPTC
Chesterfield
Garretts Green
Widnes
Cambridge Brookmount
Gillingham GVTS
Maidstone
Swindon

These sites have been chosen because they have no other amenities or shelter nearby. Steps will be put in place to protect the public. These will include signs on maximum occupancy, and rules including that you must wear a face covering. Visitors will also be asked to wipe over ‘touch points’ while they are there. Wipes and hand sanitiser will be made available. There will also be more regular and thorough cleaning carried out by the DVSA’s cleaning agents.

The DVSA will be asking for feedback from driving instructors and other visitors to assess their views on the steps that are being taken.

More locations are set to reopen in the week commencing 9th November; although with the rapidly increasing number of Covid-19 cases, this could be subject to change.
